I love reading about Jeff from the people who knew him. Some of my favorite photos of Jeff are those where he’s laughing and he has his shoulders up like a little kid that just got away with something so your description of how he loved to laugh was perfect.

I don’t know if we crossed paths somewhere along the way, probably. For #5, I would like to add Compassion. Jeff would always put anyone ahead of himself. I remember a time when my friend Pete and I roadied for the band to carry the boys and gear to a gig, can’t remember the gymnasium. Pete’s old beat up brown van had Jeff lying down after the show from exhaustion to rest on the way home. Inner Peace and Solace.

I recognize the names of both Rob Quail, and Jeff Lebar. In fact, Jeff (Healey) and Jeff (Lebar) played in my parents basement, for my 16th birthday. They brought along a drummer friend with a 21 piece drum kit. It was awesome.

I introduced Jeff to some guys at my school (in Oakville) and they formed a band and played at the schools’ battle of the bands.

I saw Jeff play live frequently. He started out at dive bars, playing country music. I was there for many of his shows, always on the guest list. i never got tired of watching him play, and watching him lead the band. He was amazing to watch; such a great talent and such a humble person. His parents were amazing people too.

He would call to keep in touch, we never lost contact. The last time that I saw him was in 2005, at Healey’s. It was great to see him again. I still think about him often, and will forever miss his voice, his laugh and his music. He was one hell of a great guy!

I grew up in Austin, Texas and I must have seen Jeff play ten times. I never missed a show if he came to Austin. I’ve bought lots of CDs over the years and collected so much music but I never get tired of listening to his recordings! They are truly timeless. I remember feeling SO very lucky to get to see him perform. He was the cream of the crop. I was so sad when he died. He left us wanting more, that’s for sure! Thanks for writing this! It was a great read.~Beverly Benton
PS It’s so funny that he’s wearing a RATT concert t-shirt in the pic.

As I read your post I was thinking how great that would have been to know Jeff personally. I saw him in the early 90’s and I was front row. I too was mesmerized by his playing style and also felt that same big presence that emanated from him while he played spectacularly for a truly appreciative audience. I still play “Feel This” cd weekly and never grow tired of it. I wonder if there is a video available of that show with Jeff and Stevie Ray? I would love to have it.

Thanks for sharing your memories.
